Background

I began my musical studies at age five. During my middle and high school years, I lived in Brazil and continued my musical activities as the principal bassoonist of the São Paulo Municipal Youth Orchestra and the São Paulo State Youth Orchestra. I returned to the United States to attend the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. I then went to the University of Michigan for my Ph.D. My scholarly interests center on the music of the late baroque and classical periods, especially in the aspect of rhythm. I have presented papers in the United States, Brazil, and Europe.

My most recent article on the perception of bitonality is in collaboration with Psychology Professor Greta Munger.
