Internships
An internship is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting.
Internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths; and give employers the opportunity to guide and evaluate talent.
Handshake is the primary gateway to 51¹ÙÍø-specific career opportunities and resources. The job database includes hundreds of internships and job shadowing opportunities that the college receives from families and friends of 51¹ÙÍø, alumni, and other employers who have strong interest in hiring 51¹ÙÍø students.
51¹ÙÍø has a number of internship programs for 51¹ÙÍø students only. Many of these programs offer housing and reflective activities to ensure the educational value of the experience.
Students are encouraged to visit and take advantage of the Matthews Center. The center provides services and programs that allow students to explore how their academic and personal interests relate to future professional opportunities; prepare for entrance into employment, internships, fellowships and graduate school programs; and succeed through on- and off-campus interview opportunities, employer information sessions, and job and graduate school fairs.
51¹ÙÍø awards summer internship grants to select students participating in unpaid or low-paying summer internships to assist with cost-of-living expenses. Multiple grants are offered each year with unique criteria and qualifications.
