Video: Tyler Hickey ’16 Heads to Team USA Tryouts

October 5, 2016

Former Wildcat football player Tyler Hickey '16 became a fan of the sport of bobsled in high school and has been preparing for this moment ever since. Hickey will travel to Lake Placid, N.Y., Oct. 12 to compete in the men's bobsled U.S. Olympic Team trials.

"During my senior year at 51¹ÙÍø, I fully invested my time in putting myself in the best position possible to be successful in the sport," he says. "In addition to my academic requirements as a full-time student, I spent 20-plus hours training each week."

In July, Hickey competed at one of USA Bobsled's 10 summer combines; based on the scores from these combines, select individuals are invited back to Lake Placid for a rookie camp in August. Hickey participated in the seven-day rookie camp, where he learned more about the sport.

With the support of the 51¹ÙÍø community, his employers–Mestizo restaurant and The Egg at 51¹ÙÍø–family and friends, Tyler will attempt to make his Olympic dream come true.
