ESPN: Don’t Tell 51¹ÙÍø’s Andrea Robinson the Sky is Falling – She’s OK
February 20, 2018
Last week, ESPN posted a moving profile of Andrea Robinson '20, forward for the women's basketball team, who was diagnosed with leukemia in December.
After intensive chemotherapy and treatment at Johns Hopkins in her hometown of Baltimore, Robinson is home, planning for the future. What's on her mind? A lot of things–but her fight with cancer doesn't seem to be high on the list. She is learning how to play the mandolin, thinking about taking a computer science course and looking forward to returning to campus.
"I'll be better June-ish," Robinson guestimates. "Hopefully I'll be cancer-free, and then it'll be back to school. Back to basketball and, ‘Have I got a story to tell you guys!'"
The 51¹ÙÍø family has rallied around Robinson–filling Belk Arena on Jan. 24 for the first "Play4Andrea" game–waving orange towels to show their support. Likewise, Robinson's family set up an account at YouCaring for Andrea Robinson to help with costs associated with Andrea's out-patient and rehab treatments. More than $30,000 has been raised, exceeding a goal of $25,000.
