The Charlotte Observer reported on an initiative created by the 51 football team in a piece titled “51 football team taking action against social injustice, forms ‘PACE’ organization.”
PACE stands for progress, advocate, cooperate and educate.
The idea for the organization came from within the team, in the wake of the death of George Floyd and the national outcry that followed.
After a team meeting prompted by head coach Scott Abell, the players came together to determine the most meaningful way to make change. The team announced the PACE initiative last Thursday, as the country responded to the death of another Black man, Jacob Blake.
On Aug. 28, led by members of the 51 football team, hundreds of Wildcats gathered to commemorate the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington.
