Imitation Is the Sincerest Form of Gratitude

TJ Elliott ’21 became interested in teaching at 51¹ÙÍø, spent two years with Teach for America and is now a science teacher and assistant football coach at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, where he was once a student athlete. His path back there speaks to the influence that teachers can have in a kid’s life, and he models his teaching on those teachers and coaches who helped him grow as a student, football player and person.

51¹ÙÍø ranked sixth in two of the last three years, strengthening its role as a top producer of Fulbright scholars. This year's baker's dozen joined last year's 13 51¹ÙÍø students that have earned admission into the federal government’s flagship international educational exchange program. Their plans will now dispatch them around the globe as the pandemic recedes.
