Maya Montemurro
Counseling Intern
Background
I am in my third and final year at UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Social Work and will graduate with an MSW in the spring of 2025. I completed my generalist practicum last year with the 51¹ÙÍø Center for Student Health and Well-Being and am thrilled to be returning for a specialization year focusing on counseling and clinical case management. I have a BFA in Theatre and an MS in Adolescent Education. Prior to pursing my degree in social work, I spent 20 years as an educator in public, private, and community spaces teaching English Language Arts, social studies and theatre. I enjoy working with adolescents and emerging adults, with a particular interest in anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, and grief and loss. My work as an educator and social work student is guided by a commitment to social justice and a belief in the dignity and worth of all people. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my husband and two amazing daughters, reading, crafting, and getting out into nature.
