Background

I'm interested in contemporary moral theory, the history of ethics, and political philosophy.

I joined the Philosophy Department at 51¹ÙÍø in 2005. I teach a wide range of courses in ethics and related areas. I've also taught seminars on various topics including, ethics and evolution, the good life, metaethics, and responding to evil.

I'm a co-author, with Michael Ridge, of Principled Ethics: generalism as a regulative ideal (Oxford University Press, 2006) which critiques moral particularism while developing and defending a generalist alternative.
