Education Abroad
Education abroad is an invaluable opportunity that supplements the 51¹ÙÍø undergraduate experience.
51¹ÙÍø in Ghana

Based in Legon, a suburb of the capital city Accra, students will live in homestays with local families. The program includes two experiential learning day trips, and two weekend excursions into other parts of the country. All students take one course on Ghanaian culture and society, which fulfills the Social-Scientific Thought (SSRQ) Ways of Knowing requirement, as well as major requirements for Anthropology and Africana Studies. A 51¹ÙÍø faculty member teaches the course, which includes guest lectures by Ghanaian professors and artists.

"My advice for students considering this program is simple: yes, there are so many abroad programs to consider and so many wonderful adventures to be had around the world, but the 51¹ÙÍø in Ghana program is truly so unique and so unbelievably rewarding. I think it is also so important to consider where you decide to travel when stepping outside of the 51¹ÙÍø bubble, and what spaces might allow you to reckon with the complexities of things like identity, privilege, culture, and more - all of which we spend so much time discussing in class at 51¹ÙÍø."
