Over 100 51¹ÙÍø students participate in the 51¹ÙÍø Choirs, private voice lessons, and Opera Workshop every year.
Participation in these opportunities provides students a wealth of performing experience as well as practical instruction in vocal technique, aural skills and ear training, music theory, and historical study and practice through performance. Any student, no matter their major, is eligible to participate.

Private voice lessons are available to any student for a fee, and students may take half-hour or one-hour lessons for no-credit ($) or for-credit ($). Private voice lessons give students an opportunity to learn more about their own singing instrument in a supportive and nurturing environment that allows for maximum growth and development as an artist. Beginners are welcome to sign up for lessons to explore their potential, and experienced or advanced singers will find themselves challenged both technically and musically in their lessons. Vocal lesson scholarships are available.
Opera Workshop occurs in the spring semester and provides the opportunity for students to perform scenes from opera, operetta, and musical theatre. Current participation in voice lessons is a prerequisite for the course, and auditions are held annually. Recent past performances have included full productions of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Floyd’s Susannah, and a Rodgers and Hammerstein Review.
Musical theatre productions occur bi-annually as a collaboration between the Music and Theatre departments. Auditions are typically held in the fall semester prior to the spring production.
