Latin America is one of the world's major regions, given its rich history (and prehistory), long literary tradition, multiple cultures, and complex political and economic systems.
It is a key place for understanding contemporary issues of migration, borders, development and sustainability, and power hierarchies, especially given the multiple ties binding the region to the U.S.
The 51¹ÙÍø in Peru program is directed at students interested in Latin American or Peruvian culture, history, politics, literature, social justice, the environment, and human rights.
From Outdoor Classroom to World Stage: Prof Takes Home Venice Biennale Award
A project co-curated by 51¹ÙÍø’s Prof. Jennifer Garcia Peacock and presented in conjunction with the Venice Biennale arts festival won a top award from the European Cultural Centre. Garcia Peacock, the James B. Duke Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, says her outdoor classroom at 51¹ÙÍø inspired her work. Read more.
