Baik Artist Analyzes Piece on Wall

Artist in Residence

At 51¹ÙÍø, there are many opportunities to experience an Artist in Residence.

These programs add to and enhance 51¹ÙÍø's curriculum and the extracurricular experience. If you are interested in funding from 51¹ÙÍø Arts and Creative Engagement, contact Sherry Nelson at shnelson@davidson.edu.

Essential Program Components

  • Programs that are more narrowly focused on a specific art form or practice (short-term residencies);
  • Programs that have a campus-wide focus and theme, and that welcome and support broader participation from students and other interested groups (longer-term residencies);
  • Residencies can be innovative and expand upon what's already being taught and explored on campus;
  • Emerging art forms should be incorporated into these programs. It's about more than bringing people in to do what we already do; we encourage new forms of expressive knowledge in relationship to art practices on campus-curricularly and extracurricularly.
