Pregnancy and Parenting
Title IX: Pregnant & Parenting Students
Title IX regulations offer protections to students that are pregnant, experiencing a pregnancy related condition, or parenting. Pregnancy related conditions include childbirth, loss of pregnancy, false pregnancy, or termination of pregnancy and recovery there from. As part of these protections, education programs are required to provide students with accommodations, also known as adjustments, to ensure that pregnant and parenting students have equal access to the education program while they are pregnant and can resume their prior academic status when they are ready after the birth of their child.
Pregnancy Adjustments
Possible examples include, but are not limited to:
- Rescheduling tests and assignment for necessary medical appointments,
- Breaks during class,
- Access to a lactation space,
- Release from campus housing,
- Parental leave, or
- Any other adjustment that can be tailored to meet the needs of the student.
