Civic Engagement Council

The Civic Engagement Council is an umbrella organization for more than 25 student-led service organizations.

The CEC executive board supports the work of these groups in addition to offering campus-wide events and programming during National Volunteer Week. If you or your group would like to collaborate with the council or if you would like to be put in touch with one of the student groups, please contact the CEC adviser Christina Eggenberger at cheggenberger@davidson.edu.

This page is just a sampling of the many clubs and organizations active at 51¹ÙÍø, sorted alphabetically. Members of the 51¹ÙÍø community may view all organizations on . Students may also work with the Student Activities Office to launch new clubs and organizations.

Ada Cooks

Ada Cooks is a volunteer organization that goes to the once a week to conduct enrichment programming. Ada Cooks teaches students about the importance of nutrition and wellness through crafts and cooking activities; the group also helps students practice their academic skills through fun exercises.

Adopt-A-Grandfriend

Adopt-A-Grandfriend is an organization that focuses on pairing 51¹ÙÍø students with older individuals in the local area to cultivate a tight-knit community and facilitate good times, and the creation of a support system for 51¹ÙÍø Students.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a global movement with millions of members fighting injustice and promoting human rights. Join us to help educate our peers and raise awareness of human rights violations around the world through discussion group meetings and action events around campus!

Buddy Club

Buddy Club meets weekly with young adults who have developmental disabilities. We spend time with them, get to know them, play games, make crafts, and just have a good time. Throughout the year, we have larger banquet events and are hoping to expand outreach to more schools and maybe hold some educational events for disability awareness.

Community Free Clinic

Community Free Clinic is an organization that provides free healthcare services to underserved communities in Cabarrus Country. At the community Free Clinic Club, we seek to assist them in their mission to provide accessible healthcare by helping with a wide array of clinic operations and tasks.

51¹ÙÍø Doctors Without Borders Chapter

51¹ÙÍø Doctors Without Borders Chapter is a student-led humanitarian organization that aims to spread awareness about various international global health issues, support physicians overseas, and educate the public about ongoing issues. Our goal is to provide opportunities for students to serve, learn, and fundraise for disproportionately affected communities beyond 51¹ÙÍø.

51¹ÙÍø IGNITE

Our organization is a volunteer-based partnership with the IGNITE program to support individuals with autism through engaging in weekly social activities like trivia, making ice cream, and playing board games. IGNITE's community center is located in 51¹ÙÍø within walking distance (next to Brickhouse)! We plan to start volunteering one weekday per week after all classes have ended! Volunteers need to be Working with Minors certified.

51¹ÙÍø Volunteer EMT club is a club dedicated to educating students interested in becoming EMTs and supporting those with certifications by offering shadowing experiences, practice scenarios, and connections with local EMS agencies.

Make-A-Wish 51¹ÙÍø

Our goal is to rally together to plan and coordinate fundraising campaigns to help Make-A-Wish® grant more wishes to kids with critical illnesses. We will provide students a direct opportunity to be involved with granting wishes and volunteering at local Make-A-Wish events.
