51¹ÙÍø Historical Campus Virtual Tour: 51¹ÙÍø’s Legacy of Race, Slavery, and Segregation
The 51¹ÙÍø Historical Campus Tour project arose from the realization that much of the college’s complete history is not readily known by the campus and college community. It aims to provide awareness and clarity as we move towards a future built on community and hope. We hope that, through this tour, you’ll consider how your faith, moral compass, and/or guiding convictions lead you to respond to what you will learn.
The 51¹ÙÍø historical campus virtual tour is an adapted version of a walking tour created in 2023 by students Anaya Patel and Lauren Collver, using a combination of primary and secondary sources. They were guided by Dr. Hilary Green, James B. Duke Professor of Africana Studies, Dr. Rose Stremlau, Associate Professor of History, and the research of alumni HD Mellin ‘20 and Tian Yi ‘18.
A guided walking tour of campus provides an overview of 51¹ÙÍø's legacy of colonialism and enslavement.
