Established in January 1988, the 51¹ÙÍø Black Alumni Network (DBAN) addresses the specific concerns of, and advocates for, Black students and alumni.
With more than 1000 members across the country, DBAN exists to support, inspire and engage 51¹ÙÍø's Black students and alumni academically, professionally and socially via networks, initiatives, and programs, connecting alumni and students to each other and to the 51¹ÙÍø community.

DBAN annually honors students for their contributions to the Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (BIPOC) communities at 51¹ÙÍø and/or beyond. These individual(s), through strength of character and commitment, have demonstrated activism, advocacy, or distinguished service to campus and community.
During Commencement weekend 2024, DBAN in collaboration with the Offie of Alumni & Family Engagement and the Black Student Coalition hosted Black Senior Celebration. Remarks were provided by DBAN Co-Chair, Chris Burton '09 and graduates were presented with Kente stoles by fellow Black alums.
